The Water Sports Technical Committee embarked on a journey to San Pedro to conduct testing on a few of the first High risk Water Sports Activities to verify the safety, the security of the environment and to observe any anomalies. The objective for exposing the committee members to the various water sports activities is to identify any hazards which could be observed or tested while conducting these activities. Subsequently, the committee would be able to come up with effective solutions to rectify any hazards identified in the deliberation of the appropriate standards for water sports activities in Belize.

Belize recently conducted a CALIDENA Diagnostic of its shrimp industry, incorporating both the public and private sector. It was three days of intensive brainstorming to devise an Action Plan for the industry to aid in the development of shrimp and especially for the export market. The process was initiated with funding through the German Metrology Institute, and under the auspices of the Belize Bureau of Standards. It was facilitated with technical expertise from Germany and the Caribbean, led by CROSQ. Here are a few of the highlights from the three-day process.

The first step has been an assessment of standards currently in place and the preparation of a draft plan to bring Belize up to mark with the rest of the region as well as internationally in its testing, sampling and inspection capabilities. We were unable to reach the C.E.O. in the Ministry of Agriculture for comment on the incident back then, but today, we asked Minister of State for Trade and Commerce, Tracy Panton about the reports.
